Some may say that taking over a pre-existing restaurant (or an actual diner) would make one's job of offering an eatery far easier than refurbishing two entire stores for a job. That person has never met Daniel LaRusso, with his dislike of magical appearing foods (it's haunted, right?? got to be haunted), and with a desire to get the closest spot where newcomers can find his future homely establishment to eat.
But honestly, it has more to do with the former issue. Stop being so creepy, City.
Fortunately, many people are happy to indulge in an Italian-American's eccentricities, and to bring together a spot where food can be served, and information digested. It will take some work, from rewiring, moving and retrieving, and collaborations with one another.

1. REMOVING, RETRIEVING
→ a. In the earlier stages of renovating the space being taken over, clearing out what's already in the two buildings is first priority. These buildings? One a men's boutique, filled with all the dress shirts and mostly same trouser wear as the pair next to them. They can be thrown out onto the streets, but what about that pesky eye of the law that can get you handcuffed to a random radiator?
That won't do! Feel free to rifle through the clothing options, as well as a choice of socks, shoes, and even some fragrances, or to help pack them away to be placed onto the trolley carts that have been retrieved from other parts of the city. There's also finding appropriate places to stick them. ...is there a pond nearby? (no)
(Oh, and what's the second? A pet store with toys. So useful, city!)
→ b. And then there's the more laborious side to the task: the bashing down of the correct walls, removing the rubble and depositing it, and also....collecting the industrial kitchen supplies from the other restaurants or diners. Because why get a home stove when you can get the big boy gear?
One fridge-freezer has already been supplied to the diner, a test to verify thatstealing repurposing from the other restaurants won't get people in trouble. But for the steel tables, a cooker, and a few more of those fridges and freezers? Bless your strong arms--just be careful about tearing apart the wiring at the back.
2. DECORATING, RELAXING
→ a. Know what's as important as having a kitchen to a diner? Having the right vibes, obviously. This means decorations, from picking good lighting out, choosing if fake plants should be used, and what about some wall art? Judging one's picks is also essential, too. As feedback, that is.
Maybe characters have ideas about the potential decor they'd like to suggest. It is a team effort, after all--would a character like to put their hand to making a prettified menu board? Or how do they think the outdoors should be decorated?
→ b. While the kitchen isn't up and running immediately (the space has been to readied for every portion of the diner, as well as all the equipment added), that doesn't mean that meals aren't supplied, and a kettle with tea and coffee options haven't been set up for breaks in some part of the establishment, even if it might change to another spot another day.
But snacks are brought in, from bars available in the shops, to some on-site selections with a portable cooker and food warmer. The selection is simple, with burgers around lunchtime and tomato and basil pasta around dinnertime, for those who might be more involved with the construction side of the job.
But hey, inspiring a community feel between each other is also a purpose of the Welcome Diner, isn't it? Pick up a can of coke or a juice drink, and why not speak with your fellow neighbour?
3. GATHERING, DATA
→ a. While the kitchen and diner part of the diner is important to the site, what also is, is the information supplied. Working together to figure out which apartment buildings are more occupied, what information to supply in documents, from living comfortably inside the city (whether you're used to technology, humans, or this particular time era) or to the questions important to know about the situation (what do we know? What questions should we try to find out?)
There's the idea of making a more elaborate map that helps pinpoint where to find the supermarkets, pharmacies. But, you know, maybe this is a good time to give your own ideas about what would be useful, too.
( ooc: hello, everyone! this here is a log where hopefully people can get some cr going with other diner fellows! a page is here for the diner, and if there's particular aesthetic details made and/or certain info, please let us know and it can be added!! character touches can be made to the location.
please also feel free to make up your own prompts if you had an idea of something to do that isn't above, they're just there to hopefully give some ideas. thank you to everyone who encouraged this idea! also i'm not sorry for the stock images. )
